Recreation Aide I

General Summary
Oversees the operation of assigned recreation and sports programs and activities at the recreation center, park, or off-site locations. Assists in the development, implementation, and direction of new and revised activities, special events and programs. Ideal candidates will have experience in the field of child development.
Sport Programs
Plans, organizes, implements and coordinates sports programs, including programs for adult teams, leagues, tournaments, special events, health development, youth outreach and indigenous sports.
Coordinates event for each sport such as ordering trophies, setting up tables, and arrangement for foods and gifts.
Coach an assigned group of children and focus on skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship and fun
Guides and supervises the work of junior staff and volunteers to achieve the quality delivery of sport programs.
Serves as a liaison in the Inter Tribal Sports organization.
Provides reports on attendance and success of the sport programs.
Oversees and communicates with all coaches on staff to coordinate practices, games, transportation, and development.
Recreation Programs
Plans, organizes, implements and coordinates recreation programs such as after school programs, summer camps, field trips and preparing snacks.
Coordinates events for recreation programs such as ordering supplies and materials, setting up tables and equipment, and arrangement for foods, etc.
Serves as a liaison with other recreation programs and organizations as assigned.
Provides reports on attendance and success of recreation programs.
Registers participants in classes and other activities
Collects fees from participants, issues receipts and maintains accurate records of transaction.
Supervision of Participants
Provides instruction to participants in organized sports programs, classes and activities.
Provides instruction to participants in recreational programs and activities when needed.
Ensures that a participant follows departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains recreation center with light housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, and/or dry mopping floors.
Prepares, paints, and sets up sport fields for game day.
Ensures laundry activities are accomplished, including towels and making sure gear are clean and dry.
Assists with the maintenance of recreation facilities.
Community Relation
Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with the tribal communities and outlying communities serving the Viejas Indian Reservation.
General Office
Issues equipment and supplies to members.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
Keeps track of uniform and ensure cleanliness.
Orders office supplies and prepares check requests.
Coordinates transportation for game day, recreation programs and activities. Drives children to or from recreational activities in a Viejas vehicle.
Maintains schedule for all sport fields and facilities.
Publicizes recreation programs and other offerings by creating, producing, and distributing printed materials; communicates information to all team members and community.
Prepares and documents incidences promptly.
Prepares reports and works on special projects to support initiative and directives from management.
Excellent communication skills, and demonstrated poise and professionalism when addressing concerns and interacting with people

College level coursework in child development, education, recreation or physical fitness
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Associate's degree preferred.
1 year of coaching experience required
Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
Valid Class B California's driver license within 90 days of employment.
4 or more years of experience working with children, preferably in the area of recreational, physical education and related experience.
Knowledge of Indian communities and sensitivity to Indian context is preferred
General knowledge team sports and sports terminology.
General knowledge of recreational activities, functions, events and programs.
Knowledge of school age fitness-oriented programs, sports, and nutrition curriculum and activities, preferred
Basic computer knowledge, using Microsoft Program (Publisher, Excel, and Word).
Excellent guest service skills.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
Strong planning, organizational and supervisory skills.
Demonstrate strong motivational commitment to the organization.
Ability to deal with diverse personality.
Ability to work in a fast paced, high activity environment.

The employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
